What We Do

We provide scholarships for qualified children in Ecuador so they can attend the private school, Genesis. Attending Genesis ensures that the children receive a proper education thereby allowing them to participate in Colegio, the equivalent of American High School.

Why 3rd grade to High School (Colegio)

We believe that the period between 10 and 14 years old (grades 3rd – 7th) is where the educational system breaks down and opportunities for the children of Ecuador are lost. Clearly there are problems that exist both before this period and within the Colegio educational system itself. However, we feel that weak middle school educational resources have a drastic affect on the future of these children and believe we can make a huge difference in their lives by providing assistance during this time. Although not perfect, we believe the Colegio system offers sufficient education to further the education and opportunities for those who attend. That's why focusing on getting the children to this point is so important to us and for them.

Program Structure - How it Works

Qualified students are nominated for a scholarship by their public school and the administrators. Ideally they are between 2nd and 5th grades. Once nominated they are 'interviewed' by a Genesis teacher and administrator. Additionally, the parents of the child are also interviewed to ensure there is a supportive family structure for the child's education. Once approved, their scholarship will be awarded once enough funds are available to cover their education up until Colegio.

Cost Stucture

The one year cost for a child to attend the Genesis private school is $700. This 'deal of the century' covers the cost of their education, uniforms, a lunch meal, and even a doctor visit...as well as a new life of opportunity and hope. A scholarship is only offered to a child when enough funds have been raised to guarantee that child's education until he/she reaches high school (Colegio). For example, a 5th grader will receive a two year scholarship, for 5th and 6th grade, ensuring they can attend the private school, Genesis, until they reach Colegio. No partial scholarships, such as a one year scholarship, will be available (except for 6th graders). Therefore, to determine the full cost of a scholarship we multiply $700 (per year cost) by the number of years until they reach high school.

Contributions

Contributions may be made for any amount over $100. We request that you make a commitment to any contribution on an annual basis to ensure adequate budgeting and funding for the children based on our commitment to ensure a child’s education until Colegio. Contributions do not have to be for the entire scholarship amount, however, children waiting for this opportunity sure appreciate it!
